  • AFTER 5-WEEK IN TOMATO HELL...

    1. used to WAKE UP at 5AM, no matter need to work or not;
    2. decided not to wake up for sunrise anymore because was forced to enjoy the view of SUNRISE everyday;
    3. ALLERGY to 4 colours: GREEN, YELLOW, ORANGE and RED, especially RED;
    4. couldn't stop pricing stuff in "BINS OF TOMATOES", e.g. a meal of KFC = 3 bins of tomatoes, single flight ticket from brisbane to sydney = 25 bins of tomatoes, etc.;
    5. used to shower after picking tomatoes, no matter it was 10am or 3pm, and thus always FORGOT TO SHOWER on holiday;
    6. developed a very DEEP RELATIONSHIP with tomatoes and decided not to eat tomato again in lifetime;
    7. became EXPERT in choosing tomatoes and studied different types of diseases of tomatoes;
    8. GAINED WEIGHT after living with 3 roommates who invited me to have snack everyday;
    9. became familiar to the setting of different brands of supermarkets in Australia as for over a month, our ONLY ENTERTAINMENT was shopping in supermarkets.

    No entertainment at all: no vodafone connection, no internet, no computer, no shops nearby……

  • LET'S GO FARMING!

    Finally, I am now working in a tomato farm in Cleveland (who cares where the hell it is, rural enough anyway) and had my first go in the factory yesterday, to sort out immature tomatoes from the mature ones. My first job in Oz.

    It was pretty interesting in the first FIVE minutes, with my eyes covered by hundreds of little red and orange tomatoes, yummy (though I don’t eat them at all), lovely and fresh.

    However the remaining THREE hours left only tiredness of my eyes and back.  It wasn’t an easy job, difficult to pick the orange from red while there are thousands of different ORANGES and REDS and they are all rolling and self-rotating in front of you in a second! I WAS JUST ABOUT TO FAINT! Let alone to STAND still for over 3 hours with only a half hour break.

    Anyway, I am trying to enjoy it and looking forward to pick tomatoes (though as I was informed by other WHMs here, can’t earn much) or plant vegetables! I am looking forward to be a farmer……mm…..sort of…..HOHO.

    Btw, I had put on my JEANS yesterday as my working uniform…... OK, it’s my sis’s old jeans actually. CAN U BELIEVE IT: ROE IN JEANS!?
